ppsThrough our partnership with the Pittsburgh Public School District, our current 6th grade students from Wilkinsburg Schools may apply for up to three of the District’s 6-8 and 6-12 magnet schools for the 2017-2018 academic year. Keep in mind that the window to apply to CAPA has closed as of October 21. Registration for other PPS magnet schools is open from now until Friday, December 9th at 5pm when completed applications are due.

A list of magnet schools and applications for students new to PPS can be found at http://www.pps.k12.pa.us/magnet. Be sure to print the application that falls under “Non-PPS Parents.”

Applying Wilkinsburg families should disregard Section 2 on page 3 about city residency. Our partnership with PPS waives that requirement.

Admission to a PPS magnet school is determined by a random lottery system – only students with applications completed and submitted by the deadline will be entered. Wilkinsburg students on a wait list will still be automatically enrolled at Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy unless they are accepted elsewhere. Transportation will be provided to all Wilkinsburg students by the Wilkinsburg School District, regardless of whether they attend Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy or a PPS magnet.

A representative from the Pittsburgh Public Schools magnet office will be visiting Kelly and Turner Elementary Schools to talk with parents and students about magnet opportunities. Details to follow.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the magnet office: magnetoffice@pghboe.net or 412-529-3991.
