Mr. Joel Grimes and Academy students Steven Wallace and Willie Cutler assemble bikes.

02/09/06

The Pittsburgh Community Storehouse has provided Academy students with a unique learning environment over the past 3 yrs. The Storehouse provides the Academy with much needed furniture and supplies in exchange for volunteer services in their warehouse. Student volunteers work side by side with the Storehouse team, loading and unloading shipments, running pallet-jacks, and sorting items for delivery. In September, the Storehouse donated over 20 bicycles to The Academy. These unassembled bikes have been a big hit. So far 12 students have assembled a bike with help from a teacher/bike enthusiast. When a student completes a bike he or she owns it! The remaining bikes were donated Wilkinsburg children in need.
