| (Wilkinsburg, PA) Turner Elementary students were recognized for their academic success on September 23, 2008 during an awards assembly.
Just under 90 students received trophies for their role in assisting the Wilkinsburg School District with achieving state testing standards.
Results of the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams for the 2007 - 2008 school year showed adequate results in overall reading, math, attendance, and graduation benchmarks.
"Our students were so excited to be recognized and to get their trophies," said said Principal, Christine French. "It is important to let our students know their success is noted and rewarded,"she added.
This is the third consecutive year that the Wilkinsburg School District meets state testing standards. The Wilkinsburg School District met state expectations through academic growth. In grades 6-8, all students as a group reduced their below-proficient proportions in math by 6.5% and also showed significant growth in reading. All students as a group in grades 3-5 also met the state standard for math. This year's proficiency rate in math was 22.6%, up from 13.2% in 2005. This year's reading proficiency rate was 25%, 19% higher than in 2005.
