| Teachers and students are taking a pro-active approach to prevent bullying at Turner Elementary. On October 20, 2008, a school assembly was coordinated to help attendees identify signs of bullying.
"We want to keep an atmosphere of positive and accepting behavior," said Christine French, Turner Principal. "It is our responsibility to make sure students know bullying is not tolerated and to speak freely if the situation every presents itself."
During the next month, the Turner counseling department will provide classroom guidance lessons on bully prevention. Some quick parental/teacher tips include:
TEACHERS
1. Providing supervision during unsecured time: hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria.
2. Intervene if you have suspicions.
3. When imposing consequences for bullying, separate the act from the individual.
PARENTS
1. Observe your child behavior.
2. Have open dialogues with your childâÂÂs teachers.
3. Acknowledge positive behavior.
