The hundred-year-old Wilkinsburg High School auditorium, complete with coffered ceilings and ornamented proscenium, may seem like an unlikely location for a rap concert. However, when Kid Nation Foundation paid a visit to Wilkinsburg School District on Thursday, January 14th that is exactly what happened.
The group, hailing from Hazelwood, performed for the entire student body. They delivered messages about the importance of love, hard work, studying, and self confidence. The entire event was inspiring to students who expressed genuine gratitude for the performance.
Kid Nation Foundation explains “we use our talents to motivate other students to work hard, succeed in school, and use their talents for positive things. We travel the country putting on shows that reward students who are doing well in school. This tour gives schools a chance to reward their students with a special concert just for them. The Honor Roll Tour is a high energy, interactive concert.”
Kid Nation Foundation was generous and performed a slight variation on the Honor Roll Tour theme. To celebrate the proud history of Wilkinsburg School District, they performed for the entire student body. A recent blog post on the Kid Nation Foundation website promises “We look forward to coming back for our Honor Roll Tour in the Spring (sic)! Work Hard and make Honor Roll so you can be there! We have lots of surprises in store for you!”
Thursday was a lovely day in Wilkinsburg School District. Students and staff alike got an opportunity to enjoy time together and listen to good, local music with a positive message.
