The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra returns to the auditorium at Wilkinsburg High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. Francesco Lecce-Chong will be conducting and Katy Williams will be a featured vocalist. The program will include: Bizet’s Suite No. 1 from Carmen; Grieg’s Suite No. 1 from Peer Gynt, Opus. 46; Strauss’ “Mein Herr Marquis” from Die Fledemaus; Puccini’s “Quando me’n vo” from La Bohème; Rossini’s Duetto buffo di due gatti; selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess; and Offenbach’s Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld.

For the past 12 years, the PSO has collaborated with a community-based planning committee to create an annual concert at the high school. All proceeds go directly to the music programs in the Wilkinsburg school district. The symphony raised over $6,000 from their concert here in April. Because the they have a European tour in May, this time they are coming to Wilkinsburg in the fall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door (cash or checks) and at Nancy’s East End Diner, located at 616 South Avenue.
