A huge thanks goes out to everyone in the local chapter of the National Blessings in a Backpack organization for their donations of food and juice to Kelly Elementary students. Hunger doesn’t take weekends off. But thanks to Blessings in a Backpack, elementary students were each given satchels filled with ready-to-eat foods such as crackers, cereal, granola bars and juice boxes to enjoy over a recent weekend. Backpack volunteers, along with Wilkinsburg mayor, John A. Thompson, assisted with the packing and distribution of goodies to students. TIGERS After-School Program is Gaining STEAM
The 21st CCLC Wilkinsburg TIGERS After School Program is back for its third year! All 7th and 8th grade Wilkinsburg Borough students are welcome.
The program, which focuses on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) skills, kicked off on September 11th and will run until the last week of the school year. Between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00pm, students will be immersed in a world of creativity and discovery. This year the program is partnering with Zulama, Sense of Place Learning, Art Expression, Saturday Light Brigade, Gwen’s Girls, and Pittsburgh Cares. Activities include audio recording and editing, creative gaming, painting & sculpture, ecology & urban farming, counseling, and social justice.
Participating students also enjoy small-group tutoring and homework help as well as recreation time in the boy’s gym. Students may also elect to play on one of our three Xbox gaming systems.
Students will receive a free dinner and snack, as well as free school bus transportation home.
