On June 7th, parents of Turner Elementary School students had the first of two opportunities to see the recently closed – but soon to be reopened – Wilkinsburg High School, which will be the temporary new home for students and staff while renovations are underway at Turner during the 2017-2018 academic year. Another Open House event will be held sometime in August before school starts in the fall.
One attending parent said, “I am totally comfortable with my daughters coming here next year. Overall, I am very pleased with the Wilkinsburg School District and believe they are heading in the right direction. There is a positive change taking place and I am excited.”
Another parent said, “This brings back memories for me. I went here, my sisters went here, and my oldest daughter also went here. I think this will be a new change and experience for my daughter and myself.”
Turner Elementary School Principal Tanya Smith took each family through the building, answering questions and showing them the facilities and model classrooms. At the end of the tour, attendees were offered refreshments.
“I am excited for Kyndall to be coming here next year,” said the mother of one of our rising kindergartners. “I am comfortable knowing that she will safe and kept away from any distractions [construction].”
