Turner Intermediate Students Learn About Government During Wilkinsburg Local Government Week

Posted in: Turner News, Wilkinsburg School District News

Students from Turner Intermediate School spent the morning on April 12 learning about local government and how it works as part of Wilkinsburg Borough’s Local Government Week.

The Borough held activities each day this week designed to introduce residents to the many services it provides.  In addition to Friday’s Student Government Day, Monday was a Library Open House and Ice Cream Social; Tuesday was Senior Fun Day; Wednesday was a roundtable event to discuss all the good things happening in the Borough; and Thursday was an open house with First Responders (Police, Firefighters, Medics).

During the morning activities, students were able to tour the Borough building, speak with local government representatives, visit the police and fire stations and learn about the many jobs performed by Borough officials. Students also held a mock election before finishing off the morning with a pizza lunch courtesy of the Borough.

A special thank you to all Borough employees and First Responders who spent time this morning speaking with our students about the importance of local government.
