Sixth graders from Wilkinsburg Schools and Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy began exchanging letters last month with their future classmates through a joint schools’ pen pal project.
In one letter, a Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy student tells her Wilkinsburg pen pal about her favorite teachers and her goal to join the student council. She also offers recommendations and reassurances about overcoming shyness.
Transition activities like these are meant to form bonds between students and make our students’ 7th grade year a smooth and successful one. And so far, so good. They are really looking forward to writing and receiving more letters!
