What You Need to Know to Help Your Child in School

Posted in: District News

As part of the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), the McKinney-Vento Act’s Education for Homeless Children and Youth program was amended to include improved training for staff, and the identification, enrollment, stability and success of students identified as homeless in the District.

Children who are identified as being in a temporary or inadequate living situation due to loss of housing are eligible for certain educational rights and services.

This brochure contains more information about eligibility requirements and services for homeless students living in the District.
