May 27, 2025 – Wilkinsburg, PA – The Wilkinsburg School District Board of School Directors has officially named Dr. Jocelyn V. Artinger as the next Superintendent of the Wilkinsburg School District, following a unanimous vote during tonight’s Legislative Session.
Dr. Artinger brings 17 years of experience in public education across the region and has served as Principal of Markham Elementary School in the Mt. Lebanon School District since 2020.
Dr. Artinger began her teaching career as a first-grade teacher in the Sto-Rox School District and went on to serve as a principal for six years at Propel Schools. Dr. Artinger later became the Literacy Coordinator of School Transformation in the Pittsburgh Public Schools before transitioning to her leadership role in Mt. Lebanon.
“I am honored to be the next Superintendent of the Wilkinsburg School District, and I am excited to lead the district into the future in collaboration with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community.” Dr. Artinger said. “There is so much great work happening in Wilkinsburg, and I am blessed to be a part of this next chapter in a community with such a rich history. I look forward to working together to build a Wilkinsburg School District steeped in academic excellence and student agency.”
Dr. Artinger earned her Doctorate in Education with a focus on Educational Leadership and her Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from the University of Pittsburgh. She also holds a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Chatham University, a Principal Certification, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Rhetoric from the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, she studied at the Reading Institute at Columbia University’s Teachers College.
“Dr. Artinger is a visionary and compassionate leader who brings both deep experience and a student-centered approach to the role,” said Amanda Barber, President of the Wilkinsburg School District Board of School Directors. “We are confident that she will build on the district’s momentum and help us continue creating meaningful opportunities for every Wilkinsburg student.”
Dr. Artinger was recognized as a 2022 State of Black Learning Black Excellence in Education Honoree and a 2024 New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence Honoree. She resides in Mt. Lebanon with her husband, Justin, and their two children, William (10) and Isabell (8), and their bulldog, Teddy.
Dr. Artinger will follow Ms. Denise Sedlacek, who has been serving as interim superintendent since March. Prior to that, Dr. Joe Maluchnik served as the district’s Superintendent.
