Dear Wilkinsburg Families,
I am writing to inform you about two leadership changes happening with the District. Mrs. Kerry McClellan will be shifting to serve as our Director of Special Education and Special Services, and Ms. Summer Pendro will serve as the new Principal of Turner Intermediate, effective Monday, October 27, 2025.
While it is bittersweet for Mrs. McClellan to leave Turner's day-to-day operations, she will continue to play an integral role in supporting students and families across the district. This change also marks a homecoming for Mrs. McClellan, as seventeen years ago, she began her career in Wilkinsburg as the Director of Special Education. She is excited to return to that critical role to serve our students and shape the vision of that department for the District.
Ms. Summer Pendro, who currently serves as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, began her Wilkinsburg career at Turner Intermediate as a third- and sixth-grade teacher. Her deep understanding of our schools, students, and instructional priorities makes her well-positioned to lead Turner Intermediate into its next phase.
To help families get to know Ms. Pendro and Mrs. McClellan in their new capacities and to celebrate this transition, we invite you to a Meet and Greet in the Turner Intermediate Library on Tuesday, November 11, just before our first PTO meeting of the year. Details are below:
- Ms. Pendro will meet with all Turner families from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.
- The PTO meeting will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Dinner will be served.
- Immediately following the PTO meeting, Mrs. McClellan will meet with families of all students until 7:30 p.m.
This will be a great opportunity to connect and hear more about their education, experience, and continued commitment to our students and school community. We hope to see you there! In the meantime, please see the following letters to hear from both Mrs. McClellan and Ms. Pendro:

We look forward to this new chapter of leadership at Turner Intermediate and within the district. We are confident that Turner Intermediate will continue to thrive under Ms. Pendro's leadership, with Mrs. McClellan continuing to advance our district's mission of supporting every student's success. Dr. Artinger will serve as the district's lead for curriculum, instruction, and assessment with support from the principals.
