Inclement Weather Procedures

As the winter season approaches, we would like to share important information regarding our protocol when inclement weather may cause the district to delay or cancel school.

Communication for Delay or Closures:
If the district announces a delay or closure, you will be notified via robocall and text message. Information will also be available on local news stations (KDKA, WPXI, WTAE), as well as on our website and social media pages.

Delays:
In the event of a two-hour delay, breakfast will not be served, and all after-school activities will be canceled. Bus pick-up times will be two hours later than usual. Building doors will be open at 10:20 a.m., and school will begin at 10:40 a.m.

School Closures:
If a snow day (school closure) is called, there will be no classes and a make-up day will be scheduled. Families will receive communication once the date for the make-up day is determined.

Flexible Instruction Days (FID):
A Flexible Instructional Day may be used for a weather or building emergency that requires us to close our schools, while providing instruction virtually to our students rather than in the classroom. Families will be notified of a Flexible Instructional Day in the same way you receive notification of delayed starts and cancellations (text, call and/or email) with the message “Schools Closed-Flexible Instructional Day.” These days will count as a full day of school and will not have to be rescheduled later in the year. See below for some helpful information about FIDs.

  • If a FID is used, students in Kindergarten through 6th grade will receive an email from their teacher with instructions to log in to their Google Classroom and follow the FID schedule for their grade level. Pre-K students will complete a FID packet that will be sent home in advance.
  • The day will include a mix of synchronous (live teaching) and asynchronous (work on your own) learning.
  • Attendance will be taken at 9:00 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., and students need to be “present” in the live sessions at these times for their attendance to count.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or principal.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep everyone safe during winter weather.
