Wilkinsburg School District is proud to partner with Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) to support our students as they transition to PPS after completing 6th grade. As families plan for the 2026–2027 school year, PPS magnet schools and programs offer additional educational options for students to explore special interests, talents, and career pathways.
Magnet programs allow students to pursue focused areas of interest, such as the arts, academics, or career-oriented pathways.
Magnet Application Timeline for 2026–2027
- Application Opens: January 17, 2026
- Application Deadline: Friday, February 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
- (This deadline also applies for students who wish to be considered for first-round auditions at Pittsburgh CAPA.)
- Lottery Results: Shared with families via email in mid-March 2026
PPS Magnet Fair
Families are encouraged to attend the annual PPS Magnet Fair to learn more about school options and programs.

- Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Location: Barack Obama Academy (515 N. Highland Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206)
At the Magnet Fair, families can speak directly with school staff and receive support with the enrollment process. Families who are new to PPS are especially encouraged to attend.
