Transportation FAQs

No. Students in grades K-6 who live more than 0.7 miles from Kelly Primary or Turner Intermediate are eligible for school bus transportation. Students who live within 0.7 miles of their school are considered walkers. 

Students attending Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy are assigned school bus transportation by the Wilkinsburg School District. 

Students attending private, parochial, charter schools, or Pittsburgh Public Schools magnet programs located within a 10-mile radius of the borough receive Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) ConnectCards for use throughout the school year while attending school in person. 

If the school is notified that a bus is running late, an automated phone call and text message will be sent to the student's parent or guardian.

If your child's bus is running late and you have not received an automated notification, or if the bus does not arrive, please contact the bus company directly at 412-646-2320.

Transportation information, including bus stop locations and pickup and drop-off times, will be shared approximately two weeks before the start of the school year. 

Bus stops are established at central locations to provide safe, efficient transportation for all students. Limiting the number of stops helps reduce travel time, improve traffic flow, and maintain consistent bus schedules. For safety reasons, buses cannot stop at every residence. 

Pennsylvania law allows students to walk up to 1.5 miles to a designated bus stop. In Wilkinsburg, the average walking distance is less than one-quarter mile, and no student is assigned a stop more than 1.5 miles from home. Bus stop locations are not changed based solely on walking distance. 

The Wilkinsburg School District Transportation Department will give students attending charter schools Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) ConnectCards for use throughout the school year while attending school in person. 

Students attending Propel (Pre-K through Grade 5) receive transportation directly through Propel. Please contact Propel's Transportation Department for additional information.
