Students Read “The Two Brothers” and Practice Text Dependent Analysis

Posted in: District News

After Ms. Polosky’s 5th grade students read the short story “The Two Brothers,” they each wrote an essay analyzing how each brother’s point of view conveys the central message of the story. They used textual evidence from the passage to support their responses and provided reasons for choosing the evidence that they did.

The goal of this assignment was to ensure students understand the meaning behind content and are able to synthesize it. Students who have exposure and experience with complex texts and text dependent analysis are more likely to become critical thinkers.
