Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Summer Pendro has been a Wilkinsburg employee since 2003. She earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K–6) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She continued her education by obtaining her master's degree from Point Park University. Ms. Pendro holds a master's in Administration with Principal Certification (K–12), as well as a master's in Special Education (Pre-K to 8).


Ms. Pendro worked as a teacher at Turner Elementary for her first twelve years in the district. Her next endeavor was as the Early Childhood/Literacy Coordinator, overseeing the district’s Pre-K Counts grant and kindergarten transition. During her four years in this position, she grew and expanded Pre-K to reach more children in the community, adding a fifth Pre-K classroom. The program is now able to serve 85 students. WSD is the second-largest district for Pre-K Counts in Allegheny County, behind only Pittsburgh Public Schools.

 

Ms. Pendro also collaborates with the Neighborhood Learning Alliance to provide after-school programming to Kelly Primary and Turner Intermediate students. She was appointed to her current position as the Director of

 Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in August 2019, and continues to support the Pre-K Counts program.
