Director of Curriculum

Summer Pendro has been a Wilkinsburg employee since 2003. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Elementary Education K-6. She continued her education by obtaining her master’s degree from Point Park University. Ms. Pendro has a master’s in administration, with principal certification K-12 and a master’s in special education Pre-K to 8. She continues to grow as a leader while working on her doctorate at Point Park University.

Ms. Pendro worked as a teacher at Turner Elementary for her first twelve years in the district. Her next endeavor was as the Early Childhood/ Literacy Coordinator overseeing the district’s Pre-K Counts grant and Kindergarten transition. During her four years in this position, she grew and expanded Pre-K to reach more children in the community. This past year, she collaborated with the building Principal and added a fifth PreK classroom. The program is now able to service 85 students. Also, works in collaboration with the Neighborhood Learning Alliance to provide after-school programming to Kelly Primary and Turner Intermediate students. 

Ms. Pendro was appointed to her current position as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in August 2019. Her goals are to continue to be a leader who works with principals, coaches, and teachers to build capacity within our district to serve the needs of all children and achieve academic success.
